The Swim England Foundation Safeguarding for Young People is aimed at anyone aged under 18 who doesn’t have a designated role at a club that requires a DBS check but wants to improve their understanding of the topic.

The elearning covers:

  • Why safeguarding is important, key documents and ways to keep yourself safe
  • How to recognise and report behaviour that is not acceptable
  • Where you can find additional support

Charlotte Colson-Hammond, Swim England’s national safeguarding officer, said: “Whilst safeguarding and welfare might not be a crucial part of a young volunteer’s role, it’s important they have a knowledge of it.

“This free course covers gives a valuable insight into how to respond to any concerns and identify signs of inappropriate behaviour, all delivered in a way that is friendly to young people.

“It will help to ensure everyone at our clubs up and down the country can enjoy the sports they love in a safe and welcoming environment.”

The course will take around an hour to complete and can be stopped and returned to at any time.

The course can be found here: Swim England Foundation Safeguarding for Young People.

Swim England will soon also be launching a Foundation Safeguarding for Adults course. This will be aimed at adults who hold committee roles, parents, or technical officials that don’t require to complete the full safeguarding course.

Anyone who is over the age of 16, in a volunteering or paid role which requires a DBS, will need to complete the Swim England Safeguarding in Aquatics course.
